Chicago and Movies in Prison
On this 2-hour walking tour, go behind the scenes of a suburban Chicago prison used in movies and TV shows
Located about 30 miles outside Chicago, Old Joliet Prison has served for years as an Illinois state penitentiary and a movie set. Learn more about the prison's double histories on this unique 2-hour guided walking tour.
First, you'll wander through the prison's barbed-wire gates and imposing 19th-century fortress-style walls. While inside, you'll get exclusive access to areas used by production crews like the yard, cell blocks, and solitary confinement.
Finally, you'll take a seat in our makeshift movie theater and hear about Hollywood's century-long relationship with Old Joliet Prison, including cinema's early role in Illinois prison reform.
NOTE: This tour needs at least 10 guests to run. In the event we must cancel because of low ticket sales, we will notify you via email and then refund you in full.
