The Wizard of Oz (1939) was first shown on television on this day in 1956. The movie musical played again on December 13, 1959. From then on, the network TV airing of The Wizard of Oz became an annual tradition.

Although filmed in Hollywood and set in Kansas, The Wizard of Oz has Chicago connections. In this short virtual tour, walk through a Chicago park that pays tribute to the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Dorothy, and Toto.
